Steve Apps is an award winning sports and documentary freelance photojournalist based in Madison, Wisconsin.
In the thirty-five plus years in newspapers, his positions include
chief photographer/staff photographer at the Wisconsin State Journal;
The Post Crescent (Appleton, WI); Sarasota Herald Tribune; and Wausau
Daily Herald.
In 2008 he was awarded the Dave Boss Award of Excellence by the Pro
Football Hall of Fame for the 2007 football season, Photo of the Year.
The photo was taken when the Packers hosted the Seattle Seahawks in the
NFC Divisional Playoffs on January 12, 2008. In the shot, Favre, in a
snow storm, points to the south end zone as the 3rd quarter ends. Over
the years photo has become one of the iconic shots of Favre. In 2019
that photo selected as one of the 100 greatest pictures in NFL league
history.
In the thirty-five years as a photojournalist and sports photographer,
Apps has covered over 300 NFL games, with most being Packers games.
To keep fresh, I also try to diversify my shooting to include documentary, travel, and nature photography.
